The University of Santo Tomas envisions itself to be an acknowledged expert in key areas of research in the pure and applied sciences. The UST Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences (RCNAS) functions as the science and technology research arm of the University. It brings together researchers of various disciplines namely, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, physics, engineering, pharmacy, and food technology – all working towards the objective of contributing to an improved quality of life and sustained viability of the environment.
Motivated by the research strengths of the university and the expertise of internationally-trained resident faculty researchers, the Analytical Services Laboratory (ASL) was established in 2010 as one of the research service units of the UST-RCNAS. The UST-ASL has been providing physicochemical analytical services, and various technical services for samples of research study and industrial importance.
The UST-ASL is composed of trained and devoted chemists. It is currently headed by a Laboratory Manager and supported by registered chemists.
UST-ASL is recognized by the Professional Regulatory Board of Chemistry of the Professional Regulation Commission with a valid Certificate of Authority to Operate. It has complied with the documentation and technical requirements for chemical laboratories in the Philippines pursuant to Republic Act No. 10657 otherwise known as the “Chemistry Profession Act” of 2015.
