Batan reelected as president of Philippine Sociological Society

Professor Clarence M. Batan, PhD of the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Arts and Letters was reelected as the president of Philippine Sociological Society for 2018 in the Annual National Conference titled #PSSCebu2017 last October 7, 2017 at University of the Philippines-Cebu.

Talking about the conference being held in the Visayas, Batan said: “our decision to bring #PSSCebu2017 to the Visayas is an attempt to revive old ties with new tides of sociology/social science enthusiasts willing to get into our enterprise of studying societies, peoples, and cultures. Our conference becomes more historically meaningful as our host institution, UP Cebu, makes this event a major part towards the celebration of its 100th year founding anniversary in 2018.”

The Philippine Sociological Society’s primary mission is to represent, promote, and advance the intellectual and sociological interests of its members. It is a non-stock, non-profit professional association registered with Securities and Exchange Commission.

As an inclusive social science organization, its members come from a range of disciplines whose professional careers have a fundamental connection to sociology.

Apart from teaching in the Faculty of Arts and Letters, Batan also teaches at the UST Graduate School. He is likewise a resident researcher of the Research Center for Social Sciences and Education.
