UST pays homage to 32 retiring faculty luminaries in A.Y. 2023-2024

In a solemn ceremony, the University honored its 32 retiring academic staff in A.Y. 2023-2024 for their long-term services on July 16, 2024, at the Buenaventura G. Paredes O.P. Building Ballroom.

In her message, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Cheryl R. Peralta, DRPH expressed her gratitude to the Thomasian luminaries who fostered generations of Thomasians. “We thank them for being role models and mentors to generations of students and colleagues for the countless lives they have touched and the legacy they leave behind,” Peralta said.

Acting Rector and Vice-Rector Rev. fr. Isaias Antonio D. Tiongco, O.P., JCD celebrated their decades-long worth of sacrifices made in the pursuit of enlightenment–a testament to the power of Thomasian education, exuded by Thomasian educators. “The wisdom you have shared transcends the confines of the classroom, echoing the lives you have touched and the intellectual legacy you leave behind” fr. Tiongco said.

On behalf of this year’s batch of retirees, Asst. Prof. Nelson M. Pasamonte of the Faculty of Engineering delivered his response and thanked the University for being their home and providing everything they needed.

Pasamonte acknowledged that the students played a pivotal role in their lustrous careers since day 1, keeping them grounded and inspired to improve. “There are times when we did not feel like teaching. Nevertheless, we found ways of performing our solemn role and duty as mentors the best we could for the sake and love of students,” he said.

For Pasamonte, their retirement is a gateway to chart new territories, spend more time with their loved ones, and simply live their life to the fullest.
