REYES, Alvin Ringgo C.

Asst. Prof. Alvin Ringgo C. Reyes is an educational leader who has served the University of Santo Tomas in various capacities: as Chair of the Department of Secondary Education (2021-2022), as Chair of the Department of Filipino (2018-2021), and as Chair of the Department of Teacher Education (2016-2018). At present, he is serving as College Secretary of the UST College of Education, where he is also handling Filipino content specialization and professional education courses as an assistant professor. He is a candidate for the Ph.D. in Araling Filipino – Wika, Kultura, Midya (Philippine Studies – Language, Culture, Media) at the De La Salle University Manila, where he also obtained his MA degree for the same discipline with the distinction of producing an Outstanding Master’s Thesis. He finished his Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Filipino Language Degree, Magna Cum Laude, at UST. With more than 15 years of teaching experience, Mr. Reyes has authored, co-authored, and served as a consultant to more than 20 textbooks and teacher’s guidebooks in the Filipino language at all basic education levels. He has also facilitated more than 50 seminars, workshops, and trainings on Filipino language education, Filipino culture, and professional education across the Philippines. As a translator, Mr. Reyes translated to Filipino the children’s novel “Agni y la lluvia” (Agni and the Rain) by Dora Sales and has won the Grand Prize in the Timpalak Mario I. Miclat sa Pagsasalin organized by the Filipinas Institute of Translation in 2022. He also served as Secretary of the National Committee on Language and Translation (NCLT) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) from 2020-2022. At present, Mr. Reyes is serving as Treasurer of the Pambansang Samahan sa Linggwistika at Literaturang Filipino (PSLLF), serving as a Member of the Board since 2010.
