Dr. Edison A. Roxas earned his Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila, and later obtained both his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Electronics and Communications Engineering from De La Salle University. He is a licensed Professional Electronics Engineer (PECE) and an active member of the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). At present, he serves as the Chairperson of the Electronics Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, and the Program Lead of the Master of Science in Electronics Engineering at the Graduate School of the University of Santo Tomas.
Dr. Roxas was engaged by the Department of Science and Technology – National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) as a Research and Development Leader (RDLeader) at the Unibersidad de Manila (UDM). During this appointment, he spearheaded the preparation and execution of the University’s Research Roadmap. His leadership led to significant outcomes, including the establishment of international research collaborations, the development and submission of research proposals for potential funding, and the notable increase in research initiatives across multiple departments of UDM.
As an active researcher, Dr. Roxas has presented and published in numerous international conferences and peer-reviewed journals. He has also been part of several externally funded research grants, serving in various capacities as main proponent, research assistant, or project staff.
He is currently a resident researcher at the UST Research Center for Natural and Applied Sciences (RCNAS). He leads the ISULAT Project (Intelligent Stroke Utilization, Learning, Assessment, and Training System), an advanced handwriting evaluation tool powered by a smart, sensor-based pen. This system analyzes handwriting features and offers an alternative means of early detection of handwriting impairments in the Philippines. The project has garnered wide recognition and extensive media coverage for its innovation and social relevance.
Dr. Roxas’ research interests lie at the intersection of Computer Vision, Data Science Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence, with applications in Digital Health and Biomedical Engineering. His work reflects a strong commitment to leveraging technology for human well-being, education, and healthcare innovation.
