Aguinaldo of Chemistry, RCNAS receives 2019 PFCS Shimadsu Achievement Award for Chemical Research

Prof. Ma. Alicia Aguinaldo, PhD was conferred the 2019 PFCS Shimadsu Achievement Award for Chemical Research, during the May 28-30, 2019 34th Philippine Chemistry Congress, with the theme CHEMBisyon 2019: Kimiko para sa Sariling Bayan.

Aguinaldo, who earned her chemistry degrees from UST and the University of the Philippines, is a multi-awarded chemist whose interests focused on natural products that antitubercular and antidiabetic properties.

Her recent studies were published in journals like the Journal of Functional Foods and Journal of Ethnopharmacology, among others. She likewise serves as a reviewer for journals like Acta Pharmaceutica, MOLECULES, and the NRCP Research Journal.

In 1993, she received the Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the National Academy of Science and Technology, and in 2011 received the National Research Council of the Philippines’s Achievement Award for Chemical Sciences.

Aguinaldo taught in the Department of Chemistry of the College of Science and retired in May 2019. She also teaches at the Graduate School and is researcher of the Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences.
