Background

The Center for Innovative Teaching and Educational Delivery (CITED) was born in 2017 from the visionary ideas of the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Cheryl R. Peralta and Prof. Dr. Allan B. De Guzman, the former Dean of the College of Education, who, alongside a dedicated team of academic staff, brainstormed its formation. In the academic year 2017-2018, their aspirations came to fruition as CITED became fully operational under the leadership of the esteemed Office of the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs (OVRAA). The successful implementation and training efforts of CITED were made possible with invaluable support from the Core Group of Speakers and Facilitators.

A significant milestone in CITED's history occurred on August 1, 2021, when it was officially integrated into the Institution’s Organizational Structure. This integration coincided with the approval of the position of Director, who would serve as the head of the office.

CITED embarked on creating its first-ever Operational Plan for the academic year 2022-2023, charting its program, projects and activities aligned with the key result area (KRA) of the University’s third strategic directional area which is Teaching and Learning and the 7-point agenda of the Father Rector.

Recognizing the broader and more complex tasks that the Center undertakes to advance teacher training through data-driven decisions and to expand its reach to various stakeholders, the Assistant to the Director post was approved and added to the organizational structure as of January 1, 2025.

As part of its ongoing pursuit of excellence, the Center sets its sights on achieving ISO readiness, signaling its commitment to adhering to global standards of academic quality and ensuring a world- class learning environment for its stakeholders.

With the collective passion and dedication of its founders, academic staff, and support from the university leadership, CITED is poised to revolutionize teaching and educational delivery, making a profound impact on the future of education at UST and beyond.

Function

CITED serves as the training arm for faculty development projects and programs at the institution. It conducts comprehensive training programs that aim to enhance the teaching proficiency of academic staff, responsive to emerging needs and the changing educational landscape.

CITED plays a central role in coordinating training programs and logistics at both university-wide and unit-specific levels, meeting the individual needs of the academic staff and collective needs of the academic units. It appoints and supervises CITED facilitators, who are instrumental in conceptualizing, implementing, and monitoring faculty development training.

Pedagogical Leads (PLs) are also managed by CITED, with a focus on identifying academic-unit-specific faculty training requirements, contextualizing the projects and programs of the Center, ensuring course quality, and submitting accomplishment reports to the Center.

CITED likewise provides capacity-building programs for CITED Facilitators (CFs) and PLs to enable them to fulfill their roles effectively. Additionally, the Center provides continuous academic support through consultation, mentoring, and follow-up initiatives.

Aligned with the university’s Strategic Directional Areas on Teaching and Learning and Public Presence, CITED carefully utilizes the recommendations of internal and external quality assurance units to continuously improve its activities, projects, and programs, thereby expanding the pedagogical toolset of every Thomasian educator. CITED is likewise committed to sharing these best practices with other stakeholders of the university.

Overall, CITED dutifully executes its responsibilities, making a significant contribution to the academic growth and success of the institution.

The Center extends assistance to requesting academic units during course and curriculum review. CITED identifies the appropriate evaluation questions, instruments, and methods to achieve the identified purpose of any evaluation activity.

Inspired by the concluding word of the UST Hymn, “GRACE,” the GRACE session is designed to support retirees as they navigate the later stages of life.
