The Department of Occupational Therapy of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences organized a continuing professional development activity for practicing pediatric Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists. The seminar-workshop titled ‘Eating Is Fun: A Multisensory Approach to Feeding’ was held at the Multipurpose Hall of the UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy on August 11, 2019. It was attended by 60 pediatric practitioners who are currently practicing or are interested in specializing in feeding assessment and intervention.
The seminar-workshop was conducted by Ms. Audrey Michelle Lim and Ms. Karen Leslie Pineda. Lim, an alumna of the Department of Occupational Therapy, shared her expertise on understanding typical feeding and possible problems related to sensory processing deficits. A certified Sensory Integration Therapist herself, she has been specializing in the assessment and intervention of feeding problems in children with special needs for several years now.
Pineda, a faculty member of the Sports Science Department and a Certified Nutritionist and Dietitian, shared her expertise on the nutritional requirements of children.
The whole day seminar-workshop allowed the 60 pediatric practitioners to understand feeding by analyzing typical feeding development and mechanics of feeding as well as assessing and providing treatment to issues related to structure, behavior, sensory processing and among others through interactive, fun and hands-on activities. Due to insistent public demand, the same seminar-workshop had its second run on September 15, 2019.
