One of the fast-rising young Thomasian talents to gain national stature in the field of education and educational research is Dr. Allan de Guzman, the current Director of the Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) of the University of Santo Tomas. De Guzman has become a much sought-after speaker in conferences, seminars, workshops, here and abroad.

Aside from giving lectures in academic fora, de Guzman also acts as editorial reviewer of journals in the field of educational research, including those from Hong Kong and the United States.

As a public affirmation of his achievements in the classroom as teacher, he was awarded for Outstanding Teaching Performance twice. One was given in 1999 (Instructor Level) and another in 2001 (Assistant Professor Level). But his awards are not only on his teaching performance. In 2004, his contribution to research writing was likewise recognized; he was recipient of Dangal ng UST Award for Best Published Work in Education and Social Sciences.

He was a research fellow in Education at SEAMEO INNOTECH in 2005-2006. After finishing his doctorate degree at the UST Graduate School in 1999, he received a scholarship grant from the Aharon Ofri International Training Center in Israel in 2001. He studied “Study Planning and Curriculum Development.”

De Guzman’s long list of achievements and recognitions include the Gawad Sulo Award for Most Outstanding Achievement in Education given by the UST College of Education. Awards have been part of the life of the young de Guzman–he was named one of the Ten Most Outstanding Student-Teachers of the Philippines given by the Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society – Philippine Chapter.

His love for education was so immense that upon graduating from college, he immediately pursued graduate studies for a Master’s degree and went on to pursue a doctorate degree in educational management. He completed all his three degrees at the University of Santo Tomas, graduating in 1993 in Education, Magna cum Laude; in 1996, he earned his Master’s degree in Education, Summa cum Laude; and finally, in 1999, obtained a doctorate degree, graduating Summa cum Laude.

The young educator was born on August 29, 1972. With his youth and passion for learning, de Guzman is not wont to stay quietly in one corner; you will find hi either conducting a lecture or discussing research with his colleagues, and hopefully, research disciplines, at CERD. That is what young blood is all about.
