Asst. Prof. Gina Lontoc, Ph.D., the UST Family Literacy Country Project Lead served as one of the mentors in the Expert Class Series of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) on May 13, 2022. This serves as NRCP’s platform for advisory and advocacy for awareness and policy integration.
Dr. Lontoc shared with the participants the results of the study of her team, highlighting the evidence-based dimension of the study in the context of educational, social, economic, and political aspects. This was an opportunity for the UST Family Literacy team to contribute to policy integration and ongoing debates surrounding family literacy, indigenous and local knowledge systems, and intergenerational learning.
Participants in the series were members of the academe, practitioners, representatives from the Alternative Learning System of the Department of Education, local government units, and representatives from the Senate, specifically from the Office of Senator Sherwin Gatchalian who is the Chairman of the Committee on Basic Education, Arts, and Culture.
Dr. Socorro Aguja acted as moderator while Atty. Katryn Cadiente from the Office of Senator Gatchalian served as the reactor.
