FoodTech dept holds career webinar

The Department of Food Technology and the Philippine Association of Food Technologists – Epsilon Chapter held the webinar entitled “Thomasian Food Technologists in the Global Arena” on November 25, 2020, Wednesday, featuring Thomasian food technology alumni who are abroad sharing experience in the food industry and overseas.

The first speaker, Ms. Ann Carillo of Kerry Foods Malaysia, noted that food technology was not a choice when she was in college. She ended up taking it to study in the University of Santo Tomas than in the University of the Philippines Diliman as a journalist. She mentioned that rejection is not always a bad thing and that it may lead to new opportunities, as long as one is taking and looking.

The second speaker, Mr. Gerardo Carrera of Browns Restaurant Group Canada, highlighted that transferring to another country is indeed tiring but
fulfilling; in such a way that aspects such as living conditions, career opportunities, are increased given that one has a positive attitude when working.

Lastly, Ms. Brenda Singco-Galido, PhD of Bureau Veritas Assure Quality Australlia said that food technology eventually became her choice as the time passed by. She noted that her love for chemistry and her family was her driving force in living overseas and while she was studying.

Thereafter, Assoc. Prof. Elizabeth Hashim-Arenas of the Department of Food Technology awarded the certificates of appreciation to the guest speakers who have made their time available despite their busy schedules and different time zones. Also, the department of food technology thanked the speakers for lending their time and their generosity for participating in the event.
