Dean Peralta delivers plenary speech, CRS faculty present papers in PPTA confab

Faculty members, alumni and students of the Department of Physical Therapy of the UST College of Rehabilitation Sciences, participated in the recently concluded “Impetus 2016: The Annual Convention of the Philippine Physical Therapy Association, Inc.” The Philippine Physical Therapy Association, Inc., (PPTA) is the accredited professional organization of physical therapists under the Professional Regulation Commission. This year’s convention was held on December 10 and 11, 2016 at the Diamond Hotel, Manila, with the theme, “Dynamism…Change…Action.”

CRS Dean Assoc. Prof. Cheryl R. Peralta, DrPH, was the Plenary Speaker, and delivered the topic “Developing the New Wave of Filipino Physical Therapists.” She likewise served as resource speaker in plenary and parallel sessions, mainly as Chair of the CHED Technical Committee for Physical Therapy Education and Member of the CPD Council for Physical Therapy under the PRC.

As panel discussant, Dean Peralta talked about “Understanding the New Policies on Continuing Professional Development” being a member of the CPD Council for Physical Therapy under the Professional Regulation Commission.

During the Parallel Session, Dean Peralta discussed the “Proposed Changes in the Philippine Curriculum for Physical Therapy” which she presented as Chair of the CHED Technical Committee for Physical Therapy Education.

The members of the CRS PT Department likewise presented their research outputs, led by its Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Valentin Dones III, Ph.D., who talked about “Diagnostic Value of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Acute and Chronic Lateral Epicondylalgia. Mr. Lemuel Lim discussed “Lived Experiences of Filipino Physical Therapists in Continuing Professional Development – a Focused Qualitative Study”; while Mr. Lyle Patrick Tangcuangco expounded on the “Association of Lateral Epicondylalgia and Shoulder Rotatory Motion: A Cross-Sectional Case Control Study” and Mr. Christopher G. Cruz talked about “Preferred Learning Strategies of Physical Therapists in using Stroke Clinical Guidelines in Patients with Gait Deviations: A Mixed Method Design.”

Some served as members of the Organizing Committee including, Executive Assistant for Research and Innovation Assoc. Prof. Michael Jorge Peralta, and member of the Board of Directors of PPTA; College Secretary Ms. Ma. Roxanne Fernandez and PPTA Secretary; and Ms. Catherine Joy Escuadra. Internship Supervisor for PT Mr. Christian Rey Rimando, and Ms. Arlene Chua-Chiong Maya served as moderators.

Elections for Board of Officers and Board of Directors for 2017-2019 were held during the Convention and among those elected to positions were Mr. Christian Rey Rimando, Vice-President for Internal Affairs and Assoc. Prof. Michael Jorge Peralta, Member of the Board of Directors.
