Dean Granado of CTHM wins best paper award for study on legalities of Philippine parties, festivals

Assoc. Prof. Gezzez Giezi G. Granado, DCL, Dean of the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, won the Best Research Paper award for his study on the legalities surrounding parties, festivals, and celebrations in the Philippines. The award was conferred during the COHREP’s 1st Annual Convention and Research Forum held from January 30-31, 2020 in Bali, Indonesia.

Dean Granado, a lawyer and tourism expert, wrote the paper entitled “Critical Analysis of the Legal and Policy Issues involved in Parties, Festivals, and Celebrations in the Philippines,” and argued that laws and regulations, instead of restricting, actually promote the safe and wonderful conduct of events for visitors and revellers. The paper, which studied existing national laws, ordinances, and regulations, found out that there were only a few laws and regulations governing parties, festivals, and celebrations in the country, possibly compromising the “optimum and holistic experience of the guests.”

The paper recommended the strengthening of existing policies and regulations. Granado teaches at the Department of Tourism Management and the Faculty of Civil Law.
