Belmonte of Chem. Eng’g., RCNAS joins SEA Int’l. and Joint Research Workshop

Engr. Beatriz A. Belmonte, PhD was one of the twenty-five delegates to the 2020 Southeast Asia International and Joint Research Workshop sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan. The workshop took place from February 4-15, 2020, at the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.

Experts from Taiwan, the Philippines, and Australia served as speakers, covering a wide range of topics pertaining to climate change and sustainable energy. Talks were coupled with field trips, laboratory visits, as well as group discussions and presentations.

Belmonte, a faculty member of the Department of Chemical Engineering and a researcher of the Research Center for Natural and Applied Sciences, holds a doctorate degree in chemical engineering. Her dissertation developed a novel framework for the high-level planning of large-scale biochar-based carbon management networks using mathematical programming. The model was developed to support the use of carbonized biomass as a soil enhancer and as a form of carbon sequestration.

The program brought together scholars from Southeast Asia and Taiwan in order to provide a collaboration platform that can bridge scholars.
