UST earns CHED’s Quality Excellence Award

The University of Santo Tomas received the Quality Excellence Award from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on May 18, 2022, for having thirteen of its program areas classified as Centers of Excellence (COE).


According to a notification letter sent by CHED Executive Director IV Atty. Cinderella Filipina S. Benitez-Jaro to UST Chancellor and Master of the Order of Preachers Very Rev. Fr. Gerard Francisco P. Timoner, III, O.P., the award was presented in recognition of “valuable contributions in uplifting and sustaining quality and excellence in higher education in their respective programs, disciplines, and areas of responsibility.”


UST’s thirteen Centers of Excellence are: Biology, Chemistry, Psychology (College of Science), Chemical Engineering (Faculty of Engineering), Hotel and Restaurant Management and Tourism (College of Tourism and Hospitality Management), Pharmacy and Medical Technology (Faculty of Pharmacy), Medicine (Faculty of Medicine and Surgery), Music (Conservatory of Music), Nursing (College of Nursing), Philosophy (Arts and Letters), and Teacher Education (College of Education).


In a circular released to the Thomasian community, UST Secretary-General Rev. Fr. Louie R. Coronel, O.P., EHL, said, “We thank the Lord for the unending graces that guided the synergy among students, University staff, parents, alumni, and other partner institutions toward the continued journey of achieving and sustaining excellence in various fields.”
The awarding coincided with the commemoration of the 28th founding anniversary of CHED and the celebration of the 2nd National Higher Education Day. Nine other Philippine higher education institutions received the award.
