Mojica, Yu of SLP deliver lectures in Thomas More University – Antwerp

Asst. Prof. Ma. Georgina D. Mojica, MHPEd and Ms. Veronica S. Yu of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences delivered lectures at the Thomas More University of Applied Sciences in Antwerp, Belgium, as part of the new partnership between the two institutions.

Mojica, the Assistant Dean of CRS, talked about SLP program and practice in UST, with the aim of identifying areas for collaborations like mobility and research opportunities / projects. Mojica likewise did a general presentation of UST—its academic programs, community services delivered through the Simbahayan Community Development Office, and the internationalization efforts spearheaded by the Office of International Relations and Programs.

Meanwhile, Yu lectured on Speech Habilitation of Cleft Lip and Palate conditions, with speech-language pathology (SLP) students of Thomas More University as audience members. The lecture provided a glimpse into a condition that is not seen nor treated in Global North or first-world countries.

Mojica and Yu’s visit included clinical visits and class observations to determine possible sites for SLP student internship exchanges.

The mobility project between the two universities is funded under Erasmus, under the KA 107 grant. In April, four representatives from Thomas More will visit UST, a follow-up on the September 2019 visit of Dr. Kirsten Schraeyen.
