UST Tiger Radio one of 10 recipients of Bret Michaels’ Spirit of College Radio Awards 2020 worldwide

Among 600 college radio stations across 43 countries, representing the Philippines, the UST Tiger Radio was among the top 10 college radio stations feted with Bret Michaels Spirit of College Radio Awards 2020, announced December 17, 2020 on its website.

The World College Radio Day team voted for the stations that embody the passion and mission of college radio. Likewise, the winners were selected “in recognition of truly outstanding and spirited efforts by college radio”. ‘The station where you hear the roar’ On October 2, 2020, in celebration of World College Radio Day, the UST Tiger Radio, discussed various topics that matter to the society.

The Tiger Jocks ran four episodes with the following topics discussed throughout the day: From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tiger Jock Nico (Anton John Supe) talked about the Frontliners and the sacrifices they made during the pandemic; he also cited different articles and videos paying tribute to the brave men and women at the forefront of the pandemic. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tiger Jock Nova (Alysia Petras) tackled the importance of suffrage and zeroed-down on the processes and guidelines of voters registration. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Tiger Jock Abel (AJ Velasco) shed light on the role of the media in times of the pandemic. He also mentioned the issue of Misinformation/Fake News, and how it brewed a stigma. On the last show from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tiger Jock Jordyn (Naomi Tolentino) discussed the shift of physical learning to online learning.

A good portion of the show was interactive, as the listeners were given a chance to voice out their sentiments in online learning, and how it affected their mental health and also the quality of education as the academic institutions were adjusting to the new normal.

UST Tiger Radio is under the Communications Bureau, headed by its Director, Rev. fr. Christopher Jeffrey L. Aytona, O.P. The Tiger Radio is part of the Tiger Media Network, which is supervised by Asst. Prof. Faye M. Abugan, Assistant Director for Broadcast, and Mr. Daryl Querijero, Tiger Radio Station Manager.
