UST Sentro sa Salin conducts webinar on technical translation

The UST Sentro sa Salin at Araling Salin gathered around 165 teachers, students, scholars, and translators in its SALINSANAY: Webinar sa Pagsasaling Teknikal bilang Gawaing Propesyonal on April 23 and 30, 2022, through Zoom.

The two-day webinar focused on actual experiences in translating technical texts, like modules, questionnaires, interview guides, informed consents, and research abstracts from various fields, including Medicine, Health, Legal, and Social Science.

In her opening remarks, the College of Education Dean Prof. Pilar Romero, Ph.D., underscored that language and translation serve as our weapons against pervading lies, prejudice, and disrespect.

Lectures on the first day included “Ang Pagsasaling Teknikal bilang isang Kolaboratibong Proyekto” by Dr. Wennielyn Fajilan, Director of UST Sentro sa Salin, and Mr. John Dale Trogo; “Mga Katangian ng Isang Evaluator ng Saling Teknikal” by Asst. Prof. Alvin Ringgo Reyes, Chairperson of Teacher Education Department; and, “Adaptasyong Pangkultura sa Pagsasaling Teknikal” by Prof. Elenita Mendoza.

The following Saturday, the lectures were “Mga Hamon ng Pagsasalin ng mga Konsepto mula sa Agham Panlipunan” by Dr. Franz Giusseppe Cortez; “Mga Hamon ng pagsasalin ng mga konsepto mula sa Agham” by Dr. Dino Tordesillas; and “Mga konsiderasyon sa Paglikha ng Baliksalin” by Dr. Rosalyn Mirasol.

The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Cheryl R. Peralta, DrPH, gave the closing remarks.

The program is part of the celebration of the 411th Foundation Anniversary of UST.
