UST ranks 5th in AppliedHE’s Private University Ranking: ASEAN+ 2023,first in Philippines

The University of Santo Tomas ranked 5th among several universities from ASEAN countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam) and beyond ASEAN (Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, and Taiwan) and maintained first place in the Philippines in the 2nd edition of the AppliedHE Private Ranking: ASEAN+ 2023.


The second edition of the AppliedHE Private University Ranking ASEAN+ 2023 includes 24 universities from Southeast ASIA and ASIA Pacific. UST was able to rank fifth among participating universities from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Hongkong, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Taiwan based on the overall ranking results in a press release signed by AppliedHE. There are only six participating universities in the Philippines, with UST emerging as the top university in the country. UST scored highly in employability, and performed well in institutional reputation and community engagement.


Universities from Indonesia (3), Malaysia (2), Philippines (1), Bangladesh (1), Hongkong (1), Azerbaijan (1) and Thailand (1) were among the top 10.


The AppliedHE Private University Ranking: ASEAN+ 2023 is the “first international university ranking that includes only private institutions of higher learning.” The ranking consists of the following criteria: Teaching and Learning (40%), Employability (15%), Research (15%), Community Engagement (10%), Internationalization (10%), and Institutional Reputation (10%). Data for calculating the respective indicators is collected from: AppliedHE Student Survey (49%), Institutional self-submitted data (28%), Bibliometric data, Google Scholar and Google News (13%), and Institutional reputation nominations (10%).


The certificate was signed by Founder and CEO Mandy Mok and Chief Analyst Pieter Stek.
