UST pays tribute to World War I soldiers through photo exhibit

On November 27, 2018, the UST History Society mounted a photo exhibit entitled “World War I – Far Away From Home,” commemorating foreign soldiers during the World War I (1914 – 1918), at the Buenaventura G. Paredes, O.P. Building’s Lobby.

In his message, Kingdom of Belgium Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Michel Philippe Goffin said the exhibition is in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the war that changed the world. As an example, Goffin cited the United Nations, an international system created to prevent another world war in Europe and in the European Union.

“There is a tendency of certain countries to return to nationalism, which poses now a real threat to United Nations system,” Goffin said. “This is a real danger that we highlight here.”

The photo exhibition is in remembrance of  soldiers from all over the world, who were sent to the Belgian front lines. This exhibit was mounted in partnership with the UST Office of Public Affairs.
