UST Fil Dept, Sentro sa Salin, tie up with PH Consulate in Jeddah for Banyuhay 2022

The UST Departamento ng Filipino and its resident institution Sentro sa Salin at Araling Salin have tied up with the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in organizing Banyuhay 2022 on August 31, 2022.

With the theme “Ang Tahanan at Pamayanan bilang mga Tagapagturo ng Wika, Kultura at Salin,” the webinar was held in observance of this year’s Buwan ng Wika.

Asst. Prof. Alvin Ringgo Reyes, Chair of the Secondary Education Department of the College of Education, underscored the role of family and the community in teaching Filipino and native languages, culture, and identity to students in the diaspora.

An authentic home-school partnership, which involves collaboration and triangulation of home-school-community, will make the school experience more meaningful, he explained.

Reactors include Assoc. Prof. Rosalyn G. Mirasol, PhD, from the UST Department of English, and Loreta Laririt, who teaches at the International Philippine School Jeddah (IPSJ).

Participants of the webinar are teachers of Philippine schools in Jeddah, including Durat Al Sharq International School (DASIS) and IPSJ, members of the Philippine International Schools Teachers’ Association (PISTA), a professional organization for teachers in Jeddah and the Western Region of Saudi Arabia, and educators from the Philippines.

The webinar was streamed on the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah’s Facebook page.
