UST confers honorary professor title upon Nobel Laureate

Nobel Laureate Mario Vargas Llosa was conferred the title Honorary Professor and delivered his lecture at the Buenaventura Paredes OP Building last November 7, 2016 (Monday).

Llosa was greeted at the Rector’s Board Room by the Vice-Rector Fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P., PhD, along with Prof. Clarita Carillo, PhD, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo, PhD, Director of Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies, Assoc. Prof. Giovanna Fontanilla, Director of the Office of Public Affairs, and Prof. Augusto Antonio Aguila, PhD.

Llosa also toured at the UST Miguel de Benavides Library, which houses the largest collection of rare books in the country.

After the conferment, he delivered his lecture in Spanish.

To cap his one-day visit in the University, a book-signing event was held at the lobby, which was a chance for the audience to meet and to greet the Peruvian writer.

In 2010, the Llosa was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature “for his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual’s resistance, revolt and defeat.”
