In honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24, 2022, the University of Santo Tomas lit its historic structures on campus with the colors of Ukraine’s flag, blue and yellow, at 6:00 p.m.
Included in the lighting are National Cultural Treasures, the historic Arch of the Centuries and the Main Building, which was the first earthquake-resistant building in the Philippines. The UST Chapel (Santísimo Rosario Parish Church) is also lit blue and yellow.
Flaglets of Ukraine were also displayed near the structures, and the Ukrainian word for peace (мир, pronounced myr) stood in front of the Arch, symbolizing the prayers of the Thomasian community.
