UST, Austrian Embassy hold digital illustration workshop for advertising students

Austrian professional illustrator Mr. Amir Abou-Roumié held a workshop on “Character-driven Digital Illustration” for advertising students of the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design (UST CFAD) on November 23, 2022, at the UST Beato Angelico Building.

The workshop was done through the collaboration of the Austrian Embassy in Manila and the University of Santo Tomas, through the CFAD and the Office of Public Affairs.
During the three-hour session, Amir Abou-Roumié shared various insights on storytelling elements and color choices as well as how to utilize drawing techniques like exaggeration of features, putting twists on clichés. He put emphasis on exploring the story that the artist desires to tell by using background details, smaller events, and symbolism to maximize the space given for the artwork.
The hands-on workshop also included live digital drawing sessions.
Austrian Embassy in Manila Press and Cultural Officer Ms. Madeleine Mitchell Diolanda and CFAD Dean Asst. Prof. Mary Christie D. Que graced the event and delivered messages.
An expert illustrator from Vienna, Austria, with over 10 years of professional experience, Abou-Roumié focuses on children’s and humorous illustrations. He has published his works in several activity books for kids as well as family cookbooks. With his fresh and joyful style inspired by the reduced cartoon and mid-century illustration & animation of the 50s, he has also contributed creative works to clients such as Adobe, Austrian Energy Agency, Tumo Center for Creative Technologies, among many others. Through his expertise, he often helps clients communicate complex topics in a target group-oriented manner and present difficult content in illustrations and comics/cartoons with humor and positivity.
