UST Accountancy students win international sustainability accounting competition in Indonesia

Team UST-Accountancy from the UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy was hailed champion in the ASEAN Sustainability Accounting and Business Student Competition, held on December 6, 2018, at the Universitas Trisakti, Jakarta Indonesia. The team, composed of senior accounting students Vincent E. Egalloy, Jett T. Gregorio, Julia Dominique Ireneo, and Franchesca Allyza F. Tan, outsmarted twenty-two other teams from Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines.

The competition was divided into three rounds: elimination, presentation, and quick question round. In the elimination round, a case on “Material Flow Cost Accounting”, a subset of sustainability accounting, was distributed to and answered by the participating teams. The panel of judges evaluated all the thirty-three entries submitted and selected twenty-teams to present their answers during the second round. From the twenty-two teams who presented, only three teams advanced to the quick-question quiz-bowl round. In the end, Team UST-A dominated the final round and was declared as the overall-champion.

Trailing behind UST-A are teams from Indonesia and Malaysia for second and third places, respectively.

The business case student competition is part of the 8th ASEAN Accounting Education Workgroup (AAEW) Meeting on December 6-8, 2018 at Jakarta, Indonesia. AAEW is an organization formed by accounting educators from various ASEAN countries, with the objective of providing input to and empowering higher education accounting programs across ASEAN countries.
