2017 Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Science in Information Systems graduates of the University of Santo Tomas led the Philippine passers of the April 2017 Information Technology Passport Examination, a regional test which serves as a yardstick for measuring basic IT knowledge as prescribed by the Information Technology Professional Examination Council (ITPEC). This council was formed in November 2005 to establish a common IT examination among seven countries including the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, Mongolia and Bangladesh. In the Philippines, the IT Passport Examination is being administered by the Philippine National IT Standards Foundation (PHILNITS).
Leading the batch were Andrew Jose Tengson (BS IT, 2017), who ranked first in the Philippines and second among ITPEC member countries, and John Joen A. Lim (BS IS, 2017), who ranked second in the Philippines and third among ITPEC member countries. They led the 1,169 IT Passport exam passers from the seven member countries of ITPEC. Graduates from the UST Institute of Information and Computing Sciences scored a 90.20% passing rate while the passing rate for the Philippines was 47.6%.
