STEM alumna takes off with awards in NASA-HASSE Space Program

UST Senior High School Class of 2025 alumna Atasha Faye Maggay reaped awards in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration – Houston Association for Space and Science Education (NASA-HASSE) Space School Program conducted from May 17 to 28, 2025, at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

Maggay excelled in various space science and engineering challenges, taking off with the following awards:

  • Silver Medalist – NASA Space Center University
  • 1st Place – Martian Habitat Challenge, Robotics, Cryogenic Challenge
  • 2nd Place – Lunar Habitat Challenge (University of Houston), Rocketry, Endothermic Challenge
  • 3rd Place – Coding Challenge

In the overall rankings, she and her team claimed the second rank.

Hailing from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand, Maggay was among the 15 delegates from the Philippines who joined the 2-week summer experience where they revved up their knowledge in space science and technology, as well as conducting real-life training with veteran astronauts, exploring advanced concepts, and etc.
