Simbahayan awards students in the 2nd Bartolome Delas Casas Poster Exhibit Contest

The Simbahayan Community Development Office held the awarding ceremonies of the 2nd Bartolome Delas Casas Community Development Poster Exhibit Contest last April 23, 2018 at the Quadricentennial Pavilion Lobby.

Einna Rhyn Echon from the Junior High school bagged the grand prize (88.8%); Roman Patrick U. De Villa  from the Faculty of Arts and Letters got 1st Runner-up (87.8%); John Bobbie M. Marfiga was adjudged 2nd runner-up (87.2).

In the People’s Choice Awards category, first placer Christian Derik Aquino from Senior High School received 1.6k heart reactions from Facebook; 2nd placer Noriel Mercado from College of Commerce received 1.5k heart Reactions; and the 3rd place went to Coleen Palma from the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences, harvesting 1.3k heart reactions.

“Through these posters, let us reflect and live the ideals of Bartolome delas Casas, our Dominican friar.” Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs Rev. Fr. Pablo Tiong, O.P. said. Delas Casas was a Dominican missionary who exposed the harassment and oppression of Europeans to the indigenous people of Americas.

“Pinapakilala natin sa buong university kung ano ang ginagawa ng mga Tomasino sa larangan ng hustisya at sa larangan ng kapayapaan.” Simbahayan Director Assoc. Prof. Mark Anthony Abenir, PhD said. “At gusto natin na mas ma-involve ang mas maraming Tomasino sa larangang ito para makita nila na sila ang gumagawa ng psoster at hindi lang po yung mga officers ng organization. Involved ang mga estudyante.”
