Seminar on overcoming academic hurdles held by Engineering counselors, faculty

The Coordinators of the Student Academic Advising and Service (SAAS) Unit partnered with the
Guidance Counselors of the Faculty of Engineering to conduct a special program for conditional students for 2nd Term, AY 2019-2020. The said activity was held on February 1, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Engineering Conference Hall with the following objectives: (a) provide the participants with additional skills to handle the academic demands and (b) contribute to the participants overall academic growth and achievement.

The module for the Seminar is entitled “Overcoming Academic Hurdles” and main topic discussed was
self-regulation with the following subtopics: academic self-concept, academic self-efficacy, academic related behaviors and academic goal orientation. It was facilitated by Bon Homme Richard G. Torres, one of the Guidance Counselors of the Faculty of Engineering.

A total of 25 first year students and 26 second year conditional students participated in the said
Seminar. Aside from discussion of the facilitator, the participants were asked to engage in the activity by
sharing their thoughts, opinions and experiences about the given topics. After the evaluation, the SAAS
Coordinators discussed about the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program to the with the first year conditional students. After which, they were asked to register themselves for the SI provided schedules.
