Prof. Edna C. Quinto, PhD of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, and researcher on Sensors of the Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences, was featured by the National Research Council of the Philippines last August 2, 2016 (Monday) for her novel device to diagnose stone formation based on urine. The novel device, which promises to be low-cost through the use of LED and a photoresistor, will help differentiate persons based on whether they are stone formers or non-stone formers based on their urine test.As an added feature, the device likewise has prospects of detecting water hardness. The device is still being prepared for patent and once patented, it will be rolled out for use by other government agencies involved in health and nutrition research.Original article by: Fresco, M.C.O.
