Porto of IPEA appointed Phl ambassador of int’l health, sports, kinesiology organization

Assoc. Prof. Jerome A. Porto, DPEd, Chair of the Bachelor of Physical Education, major in Sports-Wellness Management program of the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics, was appointed as the Philippine Ambassador of the Los Angeles-based International Organization for Health, Sports, and Kinesiology (IOHSK) on December 29, 2020.

According to Porto, the appointment entails coordinating the activities of both new memberships and Philippine representatives of IOHSK. To help in this task, Porto said that he will “reach the publics in the Philippines working with traditional and social media, websites, educational, cultural, and all manners of people-to-people exchange” to help in IOHSK’s activities. Doing so will help strengthen existing partnerships and open doors for new members.

IOHSK aims to “promote professional growth and achievement of professionals, professors, scholars, researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, and practitioners in the related fields of Health, Sports, and Kinesiology, and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering professional excellence.” The IOHSK has membership in 62 countries. As an ambassador from UST, Porto was able to secure the waiving of fees for conferences and workshops, JOHSK publication fees, and one nomination and one vote for international student scholarships. The involvement in IOHSK also allows UST to have priority review of the Equipment Assistance Grant submission should UST apply for one.

Porto holds a Doctor of Physical Education degree from the Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Indonesia.
