Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco lectures on her environmental advocacy

Last December 1, 2017, Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco, MSC, lectured on her environmental advocacy at the UST Museum.

Her advocacy, encouraging people to conserve energy and explore the means of using renewable sources of energy, was formed during her participation in the international tilt.

“I can put Science into Miss Earth and aim to understand science especially climate change.” Ibasco said.

“Strengthen environmental and earth sciences in all levels.”Ibasco said, in junction to putting environment awareness to curriculum.

According to Ibasco, normal people do not need to have a big name to make a difference,  “When you use social media, people will listen to you.” she said “What you can do is maximize and utilize everything that you have.”

Imbuing 3Cs to Environmental Advocacy

Ibasco highlighted that she carried the three  Thomasian values in her journey. “[About compassion], no matter where you are in life, it is important for you not to be just a good person in front of the camera but also [even off the camera].” Ibasco said. “We also have to learn to be competent because it is one of the most important triad that will also help you to [pursue] the best aim that we have.

“Consistency is the key that will help you achieve your commitment and at the same time it will help you to be credible as an advocate.”

She belonged to the Quadricentennial batch in 2011 and she became an instructor teaching Applied Physics in College of Science.
