IPEA conducts Korfball Seminar-Workshop in Zamboanga

BS Physical, Occupational Therapy programs receive highest accreditation level

The UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA), through the assistance of the Philippine Korfball Federation, conducted the first Mindanao Korfball Coaching and Refereeing Seminar-Workshop from July 15 to 17, 2016 at the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC).

The seminar was attended by 41 delegates composed of sports leaders, PE directors, school administrators, sports coordinators, DepEd regional directors, and coordinators. Students enrolled in BSEd-MAPEH students from local universities and schools also participated as part of their curriculum requirement.

The seminar-workshop included the history of korfball, basic information, and the development of korfball in the Philippines and its current status. The foremost topics of the seminar-workshop include korfball basic skills and drills, playing positions, techniques, and strategies and warm up exercises.

A course on proper refereeing techniques was also given and a written assessment was the culminating activity of the seminar-workshop.

The first Mindanao Korfball Coaching and Refereeing Seminar-Workshop were facilitated by Asst. Prof. Rodrigo Sambuang, Asst. Prof. Pauline Gabayan, Asst. Prof. Felix Michael Silbor, Asst. Prof. Myra Alvarado, Asst. Prof. Robinson Liaxa, and Ms. Ma. Dela Paz Banebane, faculty members from IPEA who are also officers of the Philippine Korfball Federation and International Korfball Federation-Asia in concurrent capacity. Four UST student-athletes of the Philippine Korfball Federation National Team capably assisted in the endeavor.

The UST group was invited by Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College President Dr. Nora M. Ponce, and PED Director Prof. Ma. Cristina G. Wee. The seminar-workshop was organized by PED Asst. Director Prof. Emie S. Misil. The seminar-workshop was part of the 111th Foundation Day celebration and the 15th anniversary of the ZCSPC as a State College.

The seminar-workshop is part of the IPEA Faculty Club extension service program and the PKF’s advocacy to spread korfball around the country.
