Interior design students recognized in Nippon Paint AYDA Awards

Several BS Interior Design students of the College of Fine Arts and Design were recognized in the Nippon Paint AYDA Awards, which gathered entries from all over the country.

Winning the Silver Award for the Interior Design category is Aurelio Evan for his entry “Pleaves,” which aims to address UN Sustainable Development Goals 2, 9, 11, and 13. Evan also won the People’s Choice Award. Pleaves contributes to waste management and disaster relief after being inspired by the locals of Siargao. The facility aims to facilitate trading of plastic waste for food and blankets for disaster relief. Located in Smokey Mountain, the facility aims to be sustainable through the installation of solar panels and promoting natural air circulation.

Named as Finalists were Dymphna Bringas (for Re-HABIlitate, a fabric scrap deposit and repurposing center), Bienn Marie Francine Brucal (for Salbasyon, a prison design aimed at preventing in-prison violence), and Franzel Diane Bernardo (for Balay Kaagapay, which aims to provide a sanctuary for resilience, community, and dignified lives).

The students were mentored by Department of Interior Design Chair Inst. Mary Ann Joy A. Lampoon, MDesSci, PIID, CIIE, along with academic staff Inst. John Carlo C. Beliganio, MID and Inst. Michael Suqui, MID.

With four of ten finalists, UST was named the Best Education Institution for the Interior Design Category.
