Go, Architecture alum, is principal photographer in commemorative book on Manila Cathedral

Arch’t. Marc Henrich Go, alumnus and board topnotcher of the University’s Bachelor of Science in Architecture program, was commissioned as the Principal Photographer of the postwar Manila Cathedral’s 60th dedication anniversary book, launched March 10, 2019.

According to Go, the postwar focus presented the challenge of “[capturing] this classic edifice, yet [interpreting] it in a fresh modern way to allow the viewers to see the Cathedral in a new perspective.” The project, which took more than a year to finish, was aimed at “[allowing] one to appreciate the cathedral edifice vis-a-vis its role in the lives of the Filipino people and the larger context of history.”

What came out was a “comprehensive and creative presentation of the postwar cathedral’s art, architecture, events that make and made it a significant place for the people, and the process that has gone into preserving the edifice.”

Go, who started photography as a UST freshman, credited his formation in UST, whose “campus was my playground—whether it was lit up by the glow of the Paskuhan fireworks, or bathed in the rains during a storm.”

Go partnered with Prof. Gerald Lico, the book’s editor and the one who selected Go for the work. The project was spearheaded by His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal G. Tagle, D.D. and the Manila Cathedral Foundation.
