Assoc. Prof. Giovanna V. Fontanilla, PhD, APR was featured in the April 2019 volume of Women’s Journal, in celebration of its 47th year.
In the article, Fontanilla underscored that a woman educator embodies the values of a mother. Thus, a woman educator “plays a vital role in higher education institution”, and most importantly, “to stand at the forefront of technological innovations to offer relevant, and responsive teaching”.
True to her career in the field of English language teaching and public relations, Fontanilla values the essence of communication as a way of understanding and learning from people, a belief that has helped her groom Thomasians in the University for more than 30 years.
Fontanilla finished her Bachelor of Science in Education degree, Magna cum Laude, and earned her Doctor of Philosophy, major in English Language Studies in the University. Her Master’s degree in Educational Technology helped pave the way for the establishment of the Educational Technology Center in the early 1990s. She is currently the director of the Office of Public Affairs and was also once the Executive Assistant of the Secretary-General. She teaches English courses at the Department of English.
