Engineering hosts CHEd K-12 Transition Program info session

The K-12 Transition Program Team of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) visited the University of Santo Tomas last 22 September 2016 to hold Info Session on opportunities offered by CHED to faculty members and support staff in Higher Education Institutions during the K-12 Transition Period. The Info Session was held at 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Engineering Conference Hall, and was hosted by the Faculty of Engineering.

The opportunities discussed by the Team were: (1) Scholarships: Scholarships for Graduate studies and Scholarships for Graduate Studies Abroad, (2) Research & Extension Grants: Sectoral Engagement Grants and College Readiness Grants, (3) Certificate Programs & Short Courses: Professional Advancement Grants, and (4) Institutional Capacity-Building: Institutional Development & Innovation Grants. The Lead for the Team’s Instruction Research and Sectoral Engagement (IRSE), Mr. Justin III Edward G. Modesto, led the Info Session, with Miss Kathrina Chriselle M. Coderes, Senior Scholarship Officer, and Mr. Kevin Ross D. Nera, Senior Government Engagement Officer of the IRSE Team, discussing Scholarships and Sectoral Engagement Grants, respectively.

The Info Session was attended by more than 100 faculty members and academic officials from the Faculty of Engineering and the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences (IICS), AMV College of Accountancy, Faculty of Arts and Letters, College of Architecture, College of Commerce and Business Administration, College of Education, College of Fine Arts and Design, College of Nursing, Faculty of Pharmacy, College of Science, College of Rehabilitation Sciences, and College of Tourism and Hospitality Management. The Director of Simbahayan and Community Development Office, Dr. Mark Anthony D. Abenir, was also present. Representatives from Engineering and IICS partner Industries, Pointwest Technologies and Integrated Controls Corporation (ICC), who are interested in the Sectoral Engagement Grants of CHED to jointly provide opportunities to faculty members and support staff, were also in attendance.

The Info Session was organized by the Engineering Accreditation and Continuous Quality Improvement Program (EACQuIP) Team led by Asst. Prof. Ma. Luisa T. Asilo, the Engineering Industry, Government, Academe and Alumni Relations Program (IGAARP) Team led by Prof Alberto A. Laurito, and the Simbahayan-Engineering Team led by Engr. Manolo Binuya. It was organized under the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Philipina A. Marcelo, Ph.D., who represented the University in the Multi-Sectoral Partnership Building Seminar of CHED dubbed, “Bridging the Gap between knowledge and Practice”, held at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) last 09 September 2016, with support from the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Clarita D. L. Carillo, Ph. D., and her Office.
