The Embassy of Israel and the Embassy of Hungary opened the exhibit titled “Beyond Duty: Diplomats Recognized as Righteous Among the Nations” and the Film Screening of Son of Saul last April 10, 2018 at the Buenaventura G. Paredes O.P. Building.
His Excellency Effie Ben Matityau, Ambassador of Israel to the Philippines said the unique story of the Holocaust was not just about killing but the motivation and ideology behind the catastrophe. “Be different and be killed,” Matityau said. “[All those who were killed]were not just Jews but their citizens. There is the betrayal of the state that is going against its citizen.”
“[Holocaust] is the biggest moral collapse of those who called themselves enlightened nations. The biggest moral collapse in history especially claiming their moral dignity derived from religion and culture,” Matityau said.
Ambassador of Hungary to the Philippines His Excellency Jozcef Benzce said Holocaust was the darkest perils of the history of Europe. “Son of Saul sends strong messsage that such horrors won’t happen again.”
Oscar-recipient film Son of Saul was set during the World War II where a Jewish worker named Saul Ausländer at the Auschwitz concentration camp in search of a rabbi for his child’s proper burial.
