CTHM bags several awards during the 16th NFS 2025

BS Hospitality Management, major in Culinary Entrepreneurship students proved their mettle at the 16th National Food Showdown last October 3 to 4, 2025 at the Iloilo Convention Center.

The delegation brought home multiple awards across different categories in culinary arts and beverage.


Balpreet Gill and Kent Thomas Sanchez excelled in the Best Regional Ingredient – Ilonggo Valenciana Category, claiming the highest and only Gold Award for their outstanding dishes, Arroz Valenciana and Rolyang Valenciana nga gin himlayan sang kasoy (Cashew crusted Valenciana roll). Their dishes showcased exceptional culinary expertise and innovation.

In the Best Traditional/Modern Recipe – Pancit Molo Category, Raymart Grant Bravo and Dean Krisstofer Vicencio earned the Silver Award, for their impressive traditional soup and innovative Ginpuno sang kaduha nga Molo (Double-stuffed pork-kuchay and shrimp-chicken mousseline Molo in golden consommé). Apprentices Zenno Jeff Cabangon and Liam Carlo Cruz also played a significant role in the teams’ success. They were coached by Dr. Reinald Andaya and consultant Chef Tisha Ortaliz.


Samantha Dominique Pineda dominated her category, claiming the Gold Award in the Cocktail Mixing Category with her exceptional concoction, Para Sa, a rum-based cocktail inspired by the classic Ilonggo dish KBL (Kadios, Baboy, Langka). Meanwhile, Sean Patrick De Guzman garnered the Silver Award with his innovative fermented pineapple-based mocktail, Mantiw.

Additionally, John Benedict Francisco participated in the Cacao Concoction Category, further showcasing the students’ diverse skills and talents. The students were mentored by Dr. Mary Angel Elacion and Mr. Ramil Quinonez.


Ma. Hannahlyn Pillarina, Aj Ivan Casilao, and Joan Catherine Antonio participated in the Iloilo Heritage Wedding Cake Display Category, claiming the Gold Award for their stunning creation, Timeless Threads. This Ilonggo-inspired masterpiece featured a Panubok embroidery theme, showcasing the team’s exceptional skills and creativity. The team was expertly guided by coaches Chef Maria Karmel Grace Labay and Chef Everest De Leon. Dr. Reinald Andaya provided additional support as their consultant. Bless Andal, Samantha Munsayac, and Raphaelle Denisse Manzarate also contributed to the team’s success as apprentices.


Lastly, Vida Sandina Umali secured a Bronze Award for her entry in Baby Cakes Category – Ilonggo
Fruit Basket. Hutik Sang Saging, Adlaw Sang Pinya and Bulawan Sang Guimaras, banana, pineapple and mango were the required cake flavors. She was assisted by her apprentice Ayonna Cacatian and coached by Chef Tisha Ortaliz.


The National Food Showdown is a premier culinary competition held annually in different provinces, that brings together top chefs, students, and food professionals since 2007. It was a celebration of Filipino cuisine, showcasing the nation’s rich gastronomic heritage and promoting local delicacies.
