CRS students, faculty take part in Global Internship Experience in India, USA

Nitte University Institute of Physiotherapy Two Physical Therapy Interns from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences (CRS) Alfonso Mari Flores and Jacinto Velez III, accompanied by faculty member Mr. Lyle Patrick Tangcuangco from Department of Physical Therapy, were in Mangalore, ndia from November 4 to 24, 2018, under the global Internship Experience program in collaboration with Nitte University Institute of Physiotherapy (NIPT).

The group had its immersion at the Nitte University that included clinical posting/duties, lectures and extracurricular activities. Tangcuangco conducted a series of special lectures at the Nitte University, Institute of Physiotherapy. The first talk was on “Fascia and Improving Palpatory Skills”
attended by undergraduate students. The second talk, “Ethics in Research,” was for faculty members, staff, and graduate students. He was also invited to be one of the special guests to university gatherings such as the cultural integration activity “Lasya 2018” and the sports fest “Collympics.”
Students Alfonso Mari Flores and Jacinto Velez III were involved in different duties in the hospitals assigned to them.


They were posted in different departments throughout their stay in Nitte, such as the ICU, OBG/Postnatal PT, Pediatric, and Geriatric division. They were also given the opportunity to observe different surgical procedures. The faculty of NIPT gave the two interns a series of special lectures on Yoga Therapy, Industrial Therapy, ICU Rehabilitation, NeurologicalRehabilitation, Pediatrics Rehabilitation, Geriatric Rehabilitation, among others. In
addition, they were also given a chance to join different extracurricular activities such as table tennis and watermelon carving.


Seton Hall University In a related development, two fifth year students under the Occupational Therapy program, Crissa Nicole Alonso and Ma.
Alessandra Konst, and two Speech Language Pathology students, Samantha
Foja and Vianca Alea Ocampo, participated in the Global Internship Experience Program at the Seton Hall University in New Jersey,
USA from November 8 to November 30, 2018.

The delegates were accompanied by faculty member Mr. Edmund Shih from the Department of Occupational Therapy of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences. The students participated in various learning activities such as clinic visits, classroom lectures, discussions and
laboratory activities. Occupational Therapy students Alonso and Konst attended classes on anatomy and kinesiology, professional
development, and introduction to OT.

Meanwhile, the SLP students Foja and Ocampo attended audiology and research methodology classes. During the lecture and laboratory sessions, the UST-CRS students shared their perspectives on OT/ SLP in the Philippine context. Participation in these activities provided the students with opportunities to form connections with SHU students and professors
