Thomasian undergraduate students won the 2017 BPI-Department of Science and Technology Science Awards last April 4, 2017, at the Mind Museum in Taguig City.
Winning both the Best in Basic Research Award and the Best Project of the Year Award is Sheena S. Gumatay, a fourth-year BSc Biology student of the College of Science. Her thesis was entitled “Comparative analysis of in vivo- and in vitro-produced dsRNA in silencing efficacy in Penaeus vannamei challenged with WSSV,” under the tutelage of her adviser, Assoc. Prof. Mary Beth B. Maningas, PhD.
Awarded for Best in Applied Research was Ervin Luis M. Jayag, a fifth-year BS Chemical Engineering student under the tutelage of Engr. Edsel B. Calica, MSc. Jayag worked on the topic “The study of varying co-catalyst loading parameters and design of a photocatalytic reactor for H production using modified TIO2 and visible light.” His co-authors were Ross Christien L. Cruz and Pauline May A. Losaria.
