Ampil of Filipino elected President of SANGFIL

Prof. Roberto D. Ampil, PhD of the Department of Filipino was elected as the President of Sanggunian sa Filipino (SANGFIL), and will serve a three-year term, from 2019-2022.

Ampil was the immediate past Vice-President (2016-2019) of SANGFIL and is the immediate past Chair of the Department of Filipino of UST. SANGFIL, which was established in 1994 by the Sentro ng Wikang Filipino, is an association of academic institutions that teach Filipino courses.

In an interview with Ampil, the newly elected President revealed that in the next three years, the organization will focus on greater deepening and enhancing of teachers’ skills in teaching about language, culture, and society. Apart from being true to their mandate on enhancement of teachers’ skills, Ampil said that organization will continue to be actively engaged in national discourses pertaining to teachers and language, such as the Commission on Higher Education’s Memorandum No. 20.

Another priority area that Ampil revealed is the rebuilding and improvement of the membership database, part of which was destroyed by fire. Also, the SANGFIL sourcebook is due for publication, while the new constitution will be up for ratification.
