Accountancy visiting professor hosts research training

The UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy, in partnership with the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants through its Special Committee on Accountancy Research, PICPA-Metro Manila Region and PICPA-Metro Manila Geographical Area Office, conducted a research conference entitled “Current Global Trends in Accounting and Business Research: Training for Researchers, Panelists, Advisers and Teachers,” on August 29, 2019 at the Velayo-Sycip Multipurpose Hall.

Prof. Yew Kee Ho, the College’s visiting professor, facilitated the training, which was attended by 62 faculty members representing 23 accounting and business schools in the country.

In the morning session, Prof. Ho discussed the effective ways to prepare publishable research papers. He shared his accounting research framework and discussed Prof. Robert Faff’s Pitching Research Template or the 4-3-2-1 approach to writing a paper: four fundamental starting points, three core aspects of empirical research project, two key questions, and one bottom line. He also discussed the concept of Scholastic University, which emphasized the knowledge-skills framework for university and the right mix of knowledge, skills and digital technology towards attaining a high quality, industry relevant, research university.

In the afternoon session, two student groups presented their research papers, which were critiqued by selected faculty members who served as panelists. Afterwards, Ho gave comments and advice to the panel members.

Ho currently serves as the Associate Provost, Skills Future and Staff Development of Singapore Institute of Technology. He is a Certified Public Account (CPA), Fellow Certified Practising Accountant (FCPA) of the CPA Australia, a Fellow Chartered Accountant (CA) of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, and Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA), CFA Institute.
