The development of an integrated professional quotient and uncompromising ethics as key factors in successfully responding to the emerging challenges faced by the accounting profession was emphasized by KPMG R.G. Manabat & Co. chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Ms. Sharon G. Dayoan, this year’s speaker in the 14th Washington SyCip Lecture held on November 6, 2019 at the UST Medicine Auditorium. The theme for this year’s lecture was “Working Together for A Learned Global Accounting Profession.”
After the main lecture, a panel of reactors composed of stakeholders of the profession delivered their reaction to the main lecture. Bank of Makati President Mr. Luis M. Chua, a faculty member who teaches Accounting courses, and Singapore Institute of Technology Accountancy Program Director Assoc. Prof. Sze Kee Koh, represented the accountants in the academe.
For the professional organizations, Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants President Ms. Evelyn S. Corpuz, and Institute of Management Accountant’s Southeast Asia and Australasia Director Mr. Joshua Heniro, Ph.D., delivered their respective responses. Ms. Julia Dominique C. Ireneo responded to the lecture on behalf of the accounting students.
The lecture, which was part of the activities to mark the 15th foundation anniversary of the UST Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy, was attended by faculty members and administrators from accounting schools in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Cambodia. Named after an eminent figure in the Asian business landscape and a Thomasian, the annual lecture is conducted in the memory of the late Mr. Washington SyCip, one of the founders of the accounting giant SGV which stands for SyCip, Gorres and Velayo.
