Inst. Vitus Paul L. de Jesus, LPT, PhD of the Department of Mathematics and Physics, presented two research works that aimed to bring mathematics education for the Filipino Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Learners (DHH) in the International Conference on the Education of the Deaf 2025 (ICED).



In an oral presentation, he shared his study entitled “Untangling the Curricular Web for the Mainstream Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Mathematics Classroom: Emerging Curricular Components”, which aimed to examine the connections of various curricular components in a mainstream DHH setup.
He also shared his work, co-authored with Angela Fatima H. Guzon, entitled “Curricular Components at Work: The Shaping of a Curriculum Adaptation Model for the Mainstream Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Mathematics Classroom “, which offered a guide on how to analyze interview inputs from respondents to shed light on new curricular components from the interaction.
The event was held from July 7-11, 2025, at the Auditorium della Tecnica in Rome, Italy. Held every five years in countries, ICED is the oldest and the most prestigious and influential meeting place in the field of education of deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
ICED gathers researchers, teachers, administrators, parents, and professionals from various fields such as psychology, medicine, audiology, linguistics, sociology, accessibility, arts, speech and language therapy, and technology worldwide.
Recently, he was elected to the Philippine Council of Mathematics Teacher Educators (MATHTED), Inc. National Board, where he will serve from June 2025 to May 2027.
