Kim Christine Fababair, Marina Ceriola, and Renee Avila, alumnae of the Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Painting program, were the Thomasian artists behind the painting on the lantern showcased during Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s national costume stint in the Miss Universe 2018 Pageant, held at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, Thailand. The lantern was part of Gray’s costume that embodied the three different groups in the Philippines.
The lantern was crafted using acrylic on canvas and evoked Philippine history and culture, with lines from our National Anthem, Lupang Hinirang, inscribed in Baybayin. Eric Quiwa was the Lantern Maker, while artists like Jearson Demavivas, Rhyann Andrade, and Tomas Ramirez joined the Painting alumnae in the different aspects of design.
Fababair and Avila graduated from the College of Fine Arts and Design in 2016, while Ceriola earned her degree in 2018.
