The deadline for abstract submission to the 1st International Virtual Conference on the Teaching of Filipino as a Second Language (IVCTFSL 2021) on June 17-19, 2021 is extended until May 15.
IVCTFSL 2021 was organized by The University of Hawai’i at Hilo, United States of America (USA), and the Department of Filipino, College of Education of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), to serve as a nexus of discourse on the Teaching of Filipino as a Second Language (TFSL), for Filipino and non-Filipino students.
The roster of respected educators who will give plenary lectures include Dr. Rodney C. Jubilado (University of Hawai’i at Hilo, USA), Dr. Maria Josephine Barrios-Leblanc (University of California, Berkeley, USA), Dr. Nenita Pambid Domingo (University of California, Los Angeles, USA), Prof. Edith R. Borbon (University of San Francisco, USA), Dr. Cristina Martinez-Juan (SOAS University of London, United Kingdom), Dr. Pia C. Arboleda (University of Hawai’i at Manoa, USA). Dr. Christian George C. Francisco (De La Salle University, Dasmariñas), Dr. Wennielyn F. Fajilan (UST), Dr. Shirley N. Dita (De La Salle University, Manila), Dr. Ivie C. Esteban (Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology), and Dr. José Wendell P. Capili (University of the Philippines, Diliman). Hon. Arthur P. Casanova, PhD, Chairman of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (Commission on the Filipino Language) will deliver the keynote address.
Aside from providing a platform to discuss current trends, issues, and challenges in TFSL, even for non-Filipino students, the international conference also aims to set the agenda for the teaching of Filipino as a second language to serve as bases for policies, researchers, and praxes.
The academic gathering, to be conducted via Zoom, is also expected to build a network of academics, teachers, scholars, linguists, advocates, officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders who will advance the field of TFSL here and abroad.
