ABAREJO, Cathlyne Joy A.

Cathlyne Joy P. Alvarez-Abarejo, MA, LPT is an instructor at the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts and Letters, University of Santo Tomas, Manila. After finishing BA Philosophy (magna cum laude) in 2012 (with Special Education course units) and MA Philosophy in 2018 (with MAEd Philosophy of Education course units) at the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of the Philippines – Diliman, she began to pursue a PhD degree in History and Philosophy of Education at the College of Education, University of the Philippines – Diliman, particularly focusing on the intersections between the Philosophy for/with Children (P4wC) pedagogy and values/virtue education. She has taught several philosophy courses both in the tertiary and basic education levels for more than a decade now. She has presented research papers and participated in local and international conferences, seminars, and trainings since 2011. She was also invited to speak in countless teacher trainings and seminars in local colleges and universities in the Philippines. In 2017, she trained at the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children, Montclair State University, in Mendham, New Jersey, USA. As an advocate of teaching thinking and philosophical skills to children and the youth, she also took Education courses and earned a PRC license in professional teaching in Values Education in 2019. All her teaching and research efforts are geared towards the introduction of the discipline of Philosophy to young minds and the development of thinking skills and intellectual virtues among Filipino youth.
