Description

Degree Name
The degree is named Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). To ensure the quality of nursing graduates, the degree is conferred upon completion of at least a four-year BSN program offered by a college, professional institution, or university duly recognized by the Commission on Higher Education. In the Philippines, the BSN degree is equivalent to Level 6 of the Philippine Qualifications Framework.

Nature of the Field of Study
BSN is a four-year program consisting of general education and professional courses. Professional courses, with emphasis on the nursing concepts with corresponding Related Learning Experiences (RLE), are threaded through from the first year through fourth year. The BSN program provides an intensive nursing practicum that will refine further the nursing competencies to ensure achievement of the BSN program outcomes required of an entry-level nurse.

Program Goals

The professional nurse is capable of providing safe, humane, quality, and holistic care to individuals in varying age, gender, and health-illness status; healthy or at-risk families; population groups; and community; singly or in collaboration with other health care providers, to promote health, prevent illness, restore health, alleviate suffering, and provide end-of-life care.

Program Policies

Program Policies

The GWA is an acronym that stands for General Weighted Average. This is the computed average of the grades acquired from all courses enrolled during an entire academic year.

For incoming freshmen, note that grades in ALL courses in the First Year Level, except PE and NSTP, are included in the computation of GWA.

As stipulated in the College of Nursing Contract, the following are the qualifications for admission to the Second Year:

  1. Meeting the cut-off grade determined by the Admission and Promotion Committee
  2. Passing ALL courses in the First Year
  3. Passing the physical examination
  4. Submission of a Certificate of Good Moral Character from the class adviser, SWDB Coordinator, and guidance counselor

The required GWA or cut-off grade in order to qualify to Second Year will be determined by the Admission and Promotion Committee of the College of Nursing at the end of the academic year. Determining of the cut-off grade will depend on the batch performance. In the previous academic years, however, a GWA of 2.00 has been the usual cut-off grade.

If a student meets the required GWA cut-off grade but incurs a failing or incomplete grade in NSTP or PE, as specified in the College of Nursing Contract, he/she will not qualify for admission in the Second Year. As specified in the College of Nursing Contract, passing ALL courses in the First Year, which include PE and NSTP, is one of the requirements in order to qualify to Second Year.

There are two possible ways of incurring a failing grade.

  1. Failure to meet the academic requirements set by the professor
  2. Failure due to Absences (FA).
