Bachmann, BPE-SWM student, wins Best Presenter award in San Beda colloquium on physical education

Ms. Sabine F. Bachmann, a fourth-year Bachelor of Physical Education, major in Sports and Wellness Management student of the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics, won the Best Research Paper Presenter award during the 1st San Beda University Research Colloquium on Physical Education, held last March 7, 2018. The colloquium bore the theme “Trends, Issues, Opportunities, and Challenges in 21st-Century Physical Education and Sports.”

Bachmann’s paper was co-written with Kasandra F. dela Cruz, Justyne V. Magat, Lady C. Pausal, Marco A. Reyes, Magnolia B. Velasquez, under the supervision of Mr. Lester James Hipol. The descriptive-comparative research gathered 60 survey responses, which found that the Spiritual Domain and Mental Domain ranked in the top spots of why people were motivated to do yoga. The study found that both male and female respondents had similar results in all five motivation domains: Spiritual, Mental, Physical, Emotional, and Social.

During the same colloquium, Ms. Jan Arielle F. Estigoy presented her paper “Lived Experiences of Thomasian Student Athletes Playing for the Philippine National Team.” The qualitative study investigated a sample of 12 respondents, who talked about their experiences as members of the country’s National Team. Five themes emerged from the study: 1) support systems; 2) challenges; 3) priorities; 4) privileges; and 5) motivations. Experiences, stress, gratitude, nationalism, university pride, academics, sport, time management, gratefulness, family support, and teamwork were likewise related in the study.

Estigoy’s co-writers were Niccolo A. Fernandez, Michelle B. de Vera, Alexandra D. Gabuan, Mary Louisse T. Garde, Lyra Jean Gustilo, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Laura Victoria W. Clavo de Comer.
